Delhi Police have busted an illegal medicine racket operating from a medical shop in Paschim Vihar, West Delhi. The shop owner, Shivam, 47, a resident of Sudarshan Park, was arrested following a police raid on Sunday evening.
Authorities seized 3,360 capsules and 84 bottles of cough syrup—medications typically prescribed for depression, severe pain, or chronic cough but known for their addictive properties. These drugs require a valid prescription under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and their sale without proper authorization is illegal.
A senior police officer stated, “We received intelligence about Shivam’s medical store illegally stocking narcotic drugs. The raid was conducted around 5 pm, and the seizure confirms violations of the NDPS Act.”
Though Shivam tried to operate discreetly, the police suspect an extensive supply network distributing these addictive medicines across the Delhi-NCR region. Investigations are ongoing to identify buyers and possible accomplices.
A formal case under the NDPS Act has been registered, and the police are intensifying efforts to crack down on illicit drug sales in the city.
