The Delhi Police have dismantled an inter-state vehicle theft and refurbishment syndicate with the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of two stolen cars, officials said on Monday.
The accused have been identified as Sunil alias Bunty (44), a resident of Rohtak in Haryana, and Anees Ahmed (42), from Mohan Garden in Uttam Nagar. Sunil, a habitual auto-lifter, had earlier been arrested in Sonipat in 2022 and by the CIA Gurugram in 2025. Anees, a denting-painting mechanic with two decades of experience, allegedly purchased stolen vehicles, refurbished them, and resold them.
According to police, heightened surveillance and technical monitoring were launched after a spike in vehicle thefts in Delhi’s west district. Teams examined CCTV footage, mapped hotspots, and tracked habitual offenders.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Darade Sharad Bhaskar said a tip-off on Saturday revealed that Sunil had resumed auto-lifting activities and would visit Gurugram Sector-26 to negotiate stolen vehicles. He was intercepted and arrested following swift surveillance.
During interrogation, Sunil confessed to stealing two vehicles — one from Vikaspuri and another from Begumpur — and supplying them to Anees. Acting on his disclosure, police raided a workshop on Dichaun Road and arrested Anees. Two stolen cars were recovered from the premises.
Police said the arrests have led to the dismantling of a structured inter-state network involved in stealing, refurbishing, and reselling vehicles.
