The Delhi Police arrested four men involved in a robbery and assault case in Karol Bagh, including the alleged kingpin, police said on Friday.
A case was registered on February 16 after a man reported being assaulted and robbed near Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
Modus Operandi of the Gang
The victim, visiting Karol Bagh from Dwarka for shopping, was approached by two men who tried to engage him in conversation. They displayed bundles of cash resembling currency notes to gain his trust and promised to share the money if he helped deposit it.
When the victim became suspicious and attempted to leave toward the hospital, the accused allegedly followed him, pushed him toward a broken boundary wall in a jungle area, and struck him on the head with a brick. They then snatched his iPhone and fled.
Arrests and Investigation
The accused were identified as:
Ibrar (23)
Suleman (22)
Aashiq Khan (27)
Aslam (34) – mastermind
All four are residents of Bawana.
Police traced the suspects using footage from over 200 CCTV cameras across Karol Bagh, Sonia Vihar, and Bawana, tracking a 32-kilometre route. Call detail record analysis of the robbed phone helped pinpoint their location. The gang was apprehended near Pitampura in a van after a brief chase. The stolen iPhone and the van used in the crime were recovered.
Fake Cash Scam and Previous Cases
During interrogation, the accused admitted to creating fake currency bundles with a genuine Rs 500 note on top, luring victims into online payments under the promise of cash. When victims resisted, they resorted to assault and snatching.
Police also noted that Aslam has multiple previous cases of cheating and theft, while Suleman has been involved in prior criminal cases. Further investigation is ongoing.
