Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has arrested two members of a notorious gang involved in luxury car thefts across multiple states. The kingpin, Harender alias Hunny, and his accomplice, Aas Mohammad, were apprehended in a series of operations that led to the recovery of four stolen vehicles.
Harender, the mastermind behind the gang, had been orchestrating the thefts, which targeted high-end vehicles for resale. Using air travel as a cover, the gang members would steal vehicles and quickly flee to avoid detection, the police said. The gang’s activities were tracked after a tip-off about a Toyota Fortuner being driven to Yamuna Vihar, prompting police to set up a trap.
Aas Mohammad, aged 39, attempted to escape when police approached but was caught after a chase that ended on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. During interrogation, Mohammad revealed crucial details about the gang’s operations, including the locations of other stolen vehicles.
After Mohammad’s arrest, Harender went into hiding. The police issued a non-bailable warrant and continued their search. After an intense manhunt, Harender was apprehended following a 100-kilometer chase near Rajnagar Extension in Ghaziabad. A stolen Maruti Brezza was found in his possession, further cementing his involvement in the crimes.
Harender, from Khajurin Khas, has a history of criminal activity, including involvement in 20 cases of robbery, vehicle theft, and cheating. He had initially worked as a driver before turning to auto-lifting as a quick way to make money. Aas Mohammad, from Seelampur, had previously worked as a taxi driver before joining Harender’s gang.
The police have warned citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, as investigations into the gang’s activities continue.
