In a shocking case of fraud, four men posing as sadhus duped a 32-year-old Chartered Accountant of his gold ring near the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. The victim, Gagan Jain, was in Delhi for a conference when the fraudsters, dressed as priests, approached him near a hotel in the Aerocity area.
The men, claiming to be high priests from the Haridwar Akhara, convinced Jain that his gold ring was defective and needed to be handed over for good fortune. They offered to apply a tilak on his forehead and, under the guise of spiritual guidance, pressured him into giving up the ring. Jain, fearing their threats of misfortune, handed over the gold ring as instructed. The fraudsters then told him not to look back, or else he would suffer bad luck.
Once the fraud was realized, Jain reported the incident to the police. The authorities launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the area. The suspects were traced to Mahipalpur and later arrested.
The arrested men—Rinku Nath (30), Sahil Nath (22), Rocky Nath (35), and Vickey Nath (31)—admitted to the crime and confessed that they had been impersonating sadhus to deceive people. The police further revealed that the four men were relatives and belonged to the Sapera community.
