Delhi Police arrested a couple and a 23-year-old woman on Friday in connection with a large heroin seizure, following raids conducted in north Delhi’s Burari and Bhalswa Dairy areas. Over one kilogram of heroin, valued at several crore rupees in the international market, was recovered.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer-North) Hareshwar V Swami revealed that the operation began after a tip-off led the anti-narcotics cell to raid a house in Kalandra Colony, where Afsana, a 23-year-old woman from Jahangirpuri, was caught with 300 grams of heroin — a commercial quantity. A case was registered against her under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Bhalswa Dairy police station.
Further interrogation led to the arrest of a couple from Burari, Narender, 37, and his wife Jyoti alias Mansi, 35. Police recovered 712 grams of heroin from their second-floor flat. Sections 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act were added to the charges, covering the use of their residence for criminal activity and abetting the crime.
In total, over 1 kilogram of heroin, worth around Rs4 crore internationally, was seized along with a scooter used in the illegal operations.
Separately, a crime branch team arrested Sourabh Aryan, 29, and 52-year-old supplier Surekha alias Shanno between August 19 and 21. The duo was caught with 446 grams of heroin valued at approximately Rs1.5 crore.
Investigations are ongoing to dismantle the entire drug trafficking network operating in Delhi.
