In a major drug bust, the Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested two drug traffickers involved in the interstate trafficking of cannabis (ganja). The accused, Birender Pratap Singh (46) and Jayaram Das (54), residents of Samaypur Badli in northwest Delhi, were arrested for sourcing large quantities of ganja from Odisha and Bihar for distribution in Delhi.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Aditya Gautam, Singh and Das were part of a network that bulk-supplied ganja in Delhi. Jayaram Das, a resident of Vaishali, Bihar, was responsible for transporting the narcotics from Odisha to Delhi. The trafficking operation was exposed after Singh provided critical information about Das’ activities.

The traffickers’ modus operandi involved traveling by train to Odisha to acquire the narcotics, and then returning to Delhi by bus. They frequently changed buses and destroyed their tickets to avoid detection by law enforcement, making it difficult for authorities to track their routes.

Das, a school dropout, became involved in narcotics trafficking after Singh recruited him to supply ganja on a commission basis. Das had a criminal history, with previous bookings under the Arms Act and Excise Act at the Prashant Vihar and Begumpur police stations in Delhi. After serving jail time, he resumed his involvement in the drug trade.

Following the operation, the police recovered 27.568 kg of cannabis from Singh’s possession. A case has been registered under Sections 20/25 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The operation was carried out by a team from the Delhi Police Crime Branch, including Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Kuldeep Maan, Inspector Vinay, Sub-Inspector Anurag, and other personnel, under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Naresh Solanki.
