Delhi Police have arrested Priyesh Giri, a 26-year-old man, for allegedly defrauding multiple senior citizens under the pretense of renewing their health insurance. The arrest follows a complaint from Gurmaith Kainth, a 74-year-old woman, who reported that she was cheated of Rs 95,000 by Giri, who posed as an insurance agent.
Giri confessed to deceiving over five senior citizens in the past year, using the guise of renewing health insurance policies to steal large sums of money. The investigation was launched after Kainth’s complaint, and the police were able to track Giri using digital footprints across various locations.
Authorities are also pursuing an accomplice who is believed to have assisted Giri in executing the scam. The investigation is ongoing as the police work to apprehend the second suspect involved in the fraudulent activities.
This case highlights the growing issue of fraud targeting vulnerable senior citizens, and authorities are urging the public to be cautious when dealing with unsolicited calls or messages related to financial services.
