The Delhi Police arrested two men, Deepak (36) and Sunil Malik alias Kala (25), and seized over 365 kilograms of marijuana, valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, officials confirmed on Sunday. The drug haul was hidden in a secret compartment of a truck that had traveled from Odisha to Delhi. The arrests took place in the Rohini area on Friday, following a two-month surveillance operation.
The truck, which was registered in Malik’s name, was used for the smuggling operation, which allegedly operated under the instructions of Sanjeev Rana, the mastermind. After delivering a consignment in Kolkata, the duo collected the marijuana from Brahmapur in Odisha. In an attempt to cover their tracks, the men loaded paper rolls in Jamshedpur and traveled through Bihar and Uttar Pradesh before entering Delhi.
The authorities tracked their movements using CCTV footage from toll plazas and intercepted the vehicle in Rohini. Both Deepak and Malik admitted to being in Delhi to deliver the drugs to a local associate.
The truck used for smuggling has been seized, and further investigations are ongoing. Authorities suspect that additional arrests will be made as they continue to dismantle the larger drug network and trace the distribution route.
