Delhi: The Delhi Crime Branch has arrested three individuals and seized 30 stolen Remote Radio Units (RRUs) linked to a major racket involving the theft and smuggling of mobile tower equipment to Hong Kong and China.
The racket involved stolen RRUs from thefts reported across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh. The accused included a mobile tower installation contractor skilled in dismantling such equipment.
On August 23, following a tip-off, officers raided a location in New Jaffrabad, arresting Zahid (34) and Chanderkant alias Atul (24), recovering 10 RRUs connected to multiple theft cases.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Sameer alias Mohammed Aftab (26) from Malviya Nagar, who revealed a smuggling network shipping stolen equipment overseas using forged documents.
A raid at Shipping Line Pvt Ltd in Mahipalpur recovered 20 additional RRUs intended for shipment to Hong Kong. Police verified that 11 units matched theft cases registered in Delhi, Rajasthan, and western Uttar Pradesh.
The accused transported equipment from Rajasthan to Delhi via state transport buses and concealed the RRUs as amplifiers when dispatching through international courier services. Investigators also recovered tools used for testing the stolen devices.
The police continue to probe the extent of the racket.
