BRANDON, Fla. — A man is facing second-degree murder charges following a deadly shooting on Sunday night, June 1, at the Cypress Trace apartment complex in Brandon. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) released bodycam footage showing the arrest of the suspect, 32-year-old Delfeayo McCoy.
According to deputies, McCoy shot Darien Henry, 25, during an argument in the breezeway of the complex around 7 p.m. in the 700 block of Providence Trace Circle. After the shooting, McCoy fled the scene while Henry was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
HCSO said McCoy was located hours later and arrested at a home in the 4900 block of 80th Street South in Tampa. Bodycam footage from the arrest shows deputies issuing commands and warning McCoy that a K-9 would be deployed if he failed to comply.
“This arrest brings some measure of accountability, but it cannot bring back the life that was lost,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “These senseless acts of violence must stop.”
McCoy faces charges of:
Second-degree murder with a firearm
Felon in possession of a firearm
The investigation remains active.
