In a shocking incident, the Dehradun Police arrested two men, Mohit Tyagi (31) and his uncle Pravin Tyagi (55), for the gruesome murder of a 68-year-old retired mining department employee. The victim, Jagdish Kumar, was allegedly murdered in a bid to steal his savings of approximately Rs24 lakh.
The accused lured Kumar to Saharanpur under the false pretense of getting treatment for his mouth cancer from a well-known doctor. However, instead of medical help, the uncle-nephew duo strangled the elderly man to death. The crime came to light when Kumar’s nephew, Sanjay Kumar, filed a missing person complaint at the Raipur police station in Dehradun.
Upon investigation, police traced Mohit Tyagi using Kumar’s phone number. They discovered numerous UPI transactions from Kumar’s phone to a newly opened bank account in Mohit’s name. Based on this evidence, the police apprehended Mohit from Raipur.
Mohit, who worked as an e-rickshaw driver, had befriended Kumar, a retired man who lived alone and had been struggling with his cancer treatment. During their interactions, Kumar had shared details of his post-retirement savings. The police believe that Mohit and Pravin planned and executed the crime to take control of Kumar’s savings.
The police investigation continues, and authorities are working to uncover further details of the case.
