Dehradun Police have arrested three individuals involved in snatching mobile phones and gold chains from commuters in the Patelnagar area, authorities said on Tuesday.
The arrested suspects have been identified as:
Kuber Gupta (21)
Vishal (21)
Shubham Jalal (27)
All three are residents of Dehradun, and according to police, they were committing these crimes to fund their drug addiction and gambling habits.
SSP Dehradun, Ajai Singh, shared details of the investigation, revealing that the arrests were made following the registration of three cases on March 3 and March 6 in Patelnagar. Authorities had gathered evidence through CCTV footage and manual intelligence to identify the suspects.
During interrogation, it was discovered that Gupta and Jalal had been acquainted for the past six years and had previously been incarcerated for similar crimes. The two men, both struggling with drug addiction, had resorted to snatching valuables as a means to support their habit. They would sell the stolen mobile phones and gold chains at low prices to Vishal, who then resold them at higher prices in other states to fund his gambling.
After the trio’s arrest, 14 mobile phones were recovered from them. The suspects were produced in court and subsequently sent to jail.
This incident highlights the rising issues of drug addiction and gambling leading to criminal activities in the region, with the Dehradun police continuing to monitor and tackle such crimes.
