A 50-year-old man, Deepak Jain, was arrested by Jaipur Police in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday for allegedly posing as an IAS officer during fake job interviews. Jain, also known as RK Agrawal, was part of a larger gang that defrauded 14 government job aspirants of approximately Rs 70 lakh by promising them non-existent jobs within the Rajasthan assembly and secretariat.
DCP (West) Amit Kumar stated that Jain’s arrest followed an extensive investigation. He added, “Jain impersonated an IAS officer, lending credibility to the gang’s fraudulent operations.” The gang’s ringleaders, Sunit Sharma (alias Abhishek) and Kamalkishor Meena (alias Montu Meena), have been in judicial custody since May 2024. Meena was earlier apprehended by the Special Operations Group (SOG) in a different case. The fraudsters also employed fake doctors and bureaucrats to conduct sham interviews to make the scam appear more legitimate.
According to Jain, he was recruited into the scheme in 2021 to impersonate an IAS officer. “The gang used fake identities to gain the trust of victims, promising them lucrative positions in exchange for money,” Kumar said.
The scam came to light when a retired Army personnel filed a complaint, reporting that his brother, who had been preparing for competitive exams, was deceived by the gang. Meena and Sharma had allegedly offered the victim a fake job and demanded payment in return for a fraudulent appointment letter.
