In a major blow to inter-state drug trafficking networks, Delhi Police’s Crime Branch seized 365 kilograms of marijuana, valued at approximately Rs1 crore, from a hidden cavity in a container truck in Rohini. Two alleged drug suppliers — Deepak (36) and Sunil alias Kala (25), both from Sonipat, Haryana — were arrested during the operation.
The contraband was smuggled from Brahmapur, Odisha, and concealed in a fabricated cavity behind the driver’s cabin. The truck had been tracked by Delhi Police for over two months, using a combination of human intelligence and technical surveillance, including CCTV footage from toll plazas and mobile phone data.
According to DCP (Crime) Harsh Indora, the suspects initially delivered a legitimate cargo in Kolkata, then picked up the marijuana consignment in Odisha. To disguise the operation, they loaded paper rolls from Jamshedpur before entering Delhi.
On May 9, acting on real-time intelligence, the police intercepted the truck near Kali Mata Mandir Road in Rohini and uncovered the narcotics stash.
Legal action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been initiated, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and destination network.
