Belagavi: In a bold social media con operation, Belagavi Police arrested Deepa Avatagi, a self-proclaimed fashion designer from Mahalingpur in Bagalkot district, for allegedly robbing wealthy men.
Authorities revealed that Avatagi collaborated with her associate, Shivanand Mathapati, who is currently evading arrest. Mathapati allegedly provided information on potential high-net-worth targets.
Investigations indicate that Avatagi used platforms such as Instagram and Facebook to connect with victims, enticing them to a lodge in Belagavi. Once inside, she reportedly locked the victims in bathrooms and made off with their valuables.
Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase confirmed that several incidents were captured on CCTV, aiding in the investigation. Authorities have already recovered significant assets and continue efforts to apprehend Mathapati.
Cases related to the con have been registered at the Tilakwadi Police Station, and further investigations are ongoing.
