A couple’s male Persian cat, Felix, aged two-and-a-half years, reportedly went missing from a pet creche in Kudghat, sparking a police investigation. The complainant, a relative of TV actress Sudipa Chatterjee, suspects that the cat was either sold to a breeder or has died.
The complainant, a doctor who preferred anonymity, had left Felix at Pawstel by Mou, a creche run by Moumita Dutta near Chandi Ghosh Road, before a family trip to Dubai. Felix, valued at Rs 3.5 lakh, was handed over on September 27. Initially, the creche sent photos of Felix regularly, but updates stopped last Monday.
Upon returning to Kolkata on October 8, the complainant contacted the creche to collect Felix. However, on October 9, the creche owner’s husband, Deep Choudhury, handed over a different cat—a female Persian resembling Felix—raising suspicion. Moumita Dutta later claimed that no other Persian cat was present and suggested the husband might have panicked and falsely admitted to an exchange.
Following the incident, Sudipa Chatterjee and actress Debolina Dutta, both animal lovers, visited the creche to recover other pets amid growing concerns. Chatterjee disclosed that her own dog was rescued in poor condition, and neighbors alleged animal cruelty and suspicious deaths at the creche, accusations denied by Moumita Dutta.
Deep Choudhury was arrested by Regent Park police but released on bail the following day. The investigation continues as authorities look into the allegations of pet theft and possible cruelty.
