Decarlos Brown Jr.’s Family Tied to Long Criminal History

Family’s crime legacy spans violent and property offenses

by Sophia Bennett

Decarlos Brown Jr., the homeless felon accused of fatally stabbing a young Ukrainian commuter on a Charlotte light rail train, comes from a family with a long history of criminal activity.

Court records and law enforcement documents reviewed by Fox News Digital reveal a troubling pattern within the Brown family. Stacey Dejon Brown, Decarlos’s older brother, is serving a 27- to 36-year prison sentence for the 2012 shotgun killing of a 65-year-old man during a robbery.

Their sister, 33-year-old Tracey Vontrea Brown, has a criminal record that includes misdemeanor shoplifting, larceny, felony conspiracy, vehicle theft, and resisting public officers. Her most recent arrests in 2024 involve misdemeanor larceny, felony conspiracy, and shoplifting, according to records from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

The family’s extensive run-ins with the law highlight a troubling legacy of crime intertwined with Decarlos Brown Jr.’s own violent allegations.
