Deanna Proffitt Arrested for Attempted Murder in WV

Domestic dispute leads to charges including burglary

Mercer County, WV – A Mercer County woman was arrested on multiple charges, including attempted murder, following a domestic incident in May.

35-year-old Deanna Renay Proffitt of Lasmeet, WV, was taken into custody for burglary, attempted murder, and malicious assault, according to a criminal complaint filed by local authorities.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic situation on the morning of May 12, 2025, after dispatch reported that Proffitt had forcibly entered a residence demanding to take her children. During the altercation, Proffitt allegedly cut the throat of a male resident while fighting him. The victim was able to fend her off until deputies arrived.

The male victim was transported to Princeton Community Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Proffitt was also treated for injuries sustained while entering the house through a broken window and was subsequently arrested.

She is currently being held in the Southern Regional Jail under a $100,000 bond.
