Indore police have successfully cracked the case of a Rs 9.5 lakh robbery targeting an elderly trader in the Aerodrome area, following the arrest of three suspects on Monday. The team, led by DCP Vinod Meena, apprehended Pavan alias Baba (son of Dagadu) from Ram Kamal Residency Gandhi Nagar; Lal (son of Kishan) from Pandharinath; and Akhilesh (son of Munnalal) from Model Village Colony.
The robbery took place a week ago when the victims, utensil trader Babulal and his son Lalit from Dwarkadhish Colony, were transporting payments collected from two traders at the utensil market. Police said the accused, who worked as loading vehicle drivers in the same area, targeted the elderly trader after surveilling him, aware of his regular payment transportation.
According to DCP Meena, “After the crime, the accused tried to evade the police. Through meticulous review of over 200 CCTV cameras and information from informants, the team identified and captured the culprits. A scooter and the stolen cash were recovered from them.”
The robbery occurred near the Rokadia Hanuman temple when three miscreants on a two-wheeler intercepted Babulal. One assailant physically attacked him while another snatched the scooter keys, opened the storage compartment, and stole the cash before fleeing. Despite the road traffic, no bystanders intervened.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections and are currently examining the criminal records of the accused. Following the incident, DCP Meena deployed teams from various police stations to investigate, interrogate known criminals, and analyze CCTV footage, which ultimately led to clear identification of the suspects and their vehicle.
