RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County authorities have arrested a second suspect in a fraud scheme that resulted in nearly $495,000 in losses for Duke Energy.
Dazmyn Person, 39, of Wake Forest, was charged Thursday with multiple offenses, including nine counts of exploitation of an older or disabled adult, nine counts of identity theft, felony conspiracy, and trafficking stolen identities.
Person’s arrest comes more than two months after deputies arrested 36-year-old Rafael Stefan Williams, also of Wake Forest. Williams faces charges including obtaining property by false pretense over $100,000, accessing computers, and multiple counts of identity theft.
The investigation began in July after Duke Energy reported fraudulent accounts being opened in the names of both living and deceased customers without their consent. The company lost nearly $495,904 as a result.
Wake County Sheriff Willie Rowe praised investigators, saying, “The months-long investigative work by WCSO investigators demonstrates our commitment and determination to resolve this case and ensure those responsible are held accountable. We will continue to safeguard the residents and businesses in Wake County.”
Deputies noted that the investigation is ongoing, and additional information has not yet been released.
