SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Authorities have arrested two of three suspects involved in a Southwest Sioux Falls gun theft that occurred overnight Friday, Feb. 6.
The Sioux Falls Police Department reported that two rifles and three handguns were stolen from an unlocked vehicle near West Snapdragon Street and South Statice Avenue.
After reviewing video surveillance footage, police identified three individuals who were seen entering vehicles in the area. Two suspects were located Monday evening near 41st Street and Western Avenue.
One of the suspects, a juvenile, was found with one stolen handgun in his sweatshirt. Another stolen handgun was recovered inside the vehicle during a search.
The second suspect, Dayvon Benson, 18, of Sioux Falls, was arrested and charged with two counts of Grand Theft and Criminal Entry of a Motor Vehicle. Searches of Benson’s home led to the recovery of two additional stolen firearms.
Authorities say one suspect remains at large and one stolen gun has not yet been recovered.
