TAMPA, Fla. — A suspect has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after a deadly shooting at a busy Hillsborough County intersection, authorities said.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) confirmed the arrest of Dayjon Clarke, 24, in connection with the May 30 shooting of Terrel Ferrell, also 24. The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. near Progress Boulevard and South 82nd Street in Tampa.
According to deputies, Ferrell was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a woman who also had a child in the backseat. The group briefly stopped to speak with Clarke when he opened fire on the vehicle.
In an attempt to escape, the driver sped off and accidentally struck a motorized bicyclist, who sustained minor injuries. The driver continued to a nearby Thorntons convenience store in Riverview to get help.
Deputies responded to the scene and found Ferrell suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives quickly identified Clarke as the suspect. He was arrested at a residence on Logarto Circle West in Lutz and taken into custody without incident.
In addition to first-degree murder, Clarke faces charges of shooting into a vehicle and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
