APEX, N.C. — An 18-year-old daycare teacher in Apex is facing serious criminal charges after being arrested on Friday, April 19. Joy Jasmin Williams has been charged with kidnapping a 16-year-old, assault by strangulation, and sexual battery.
Williams was employed at Children’s Lighthouse of Apex, where she began working in March. According to the daycare, she only worked limited afternoon hours and was never left alone with the children in their care.
Following her arrest, Children’s Lighthouse released a statement expressing their concern:
“Although this is a personal matter, these allegations are deeply troubling and do not reflect the values, mission, or guiding principles of Children’s Lighthouse. Our top priority is and will always be the safety and well-being of the children in our care.”
Officials say Williams is no longer employed by the facility, and they took swift action upon learning of the incident.
Williams is currently being held without bond and is expected to appear in court on May 7. Law enforcement continues to investigate, and the daycare urges all questions regarding the case be directed to authorities.
