SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Two men were arrested Wednesday morning for allegedly committing fraud at a Walmart in Rapid City.
The Rapid City Police Department reported that around 11:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to 1200 North Lacrosse Street following a report of fraudulent activity. Upon arrival, police found Davion Bell, 18, of Riverdale, Illinois, and Trvon Stokes, of Chicago, Illinois, operating tables at the store entrances, soliciting donations for a local high school athletic organization.
Investigators determined that the men were not affiliated with the organization and could not provide information on how the collected money would be used. Bell was also charged with impersonation to deceive law enforcement after giving false information about his date of birth.
Authorities said the two suspects solicited donations on February 24 and 25. Police believe there may be additional victims who gave money under false pretenses.
Both men remain in custody as the investigation continues.
