YORK, Neb. – A juvenile was arrested for driving under the influence, and an adult passenger is facing multiple serious charges, following a traffic stop in York County on August 17.
According to the York County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy conducted a stop on Road 9 near Road J after observing a traffic violation. The driver was identified as a juvenile showing signs of alcohol impairment. Deputies reported the smell of alcohol and conducted standardized field sobriety tests.
The juvenile later submitted a breath test that showed a blood alcohol content above the legal limit of 0.08. They were transported for further testing and evaluation.
The adult passenger in the vehicle, David D. Waegli Jr., of Henderson, admitted to providing alcohol at Recharge Lake, where both he and the juvenile had been drinking. Waegli also knowingly allowed the juvenile to drive, despite his own driver’s license being suspended and revoked from a prior DUI conviction.
Waegli was arrested and lodged at York County Corrections on the following charges:
Child abuse
Contributing to the delinquency of a minor
Procuring alcohol for a minor
Possession of an open alcohol container
The Sheriff’s Office issued a statement emphasizing the risks and consequences of enabling underage drinking and impaired driving:
“This incident serves as a serious reminder how enabling underage drinking and impaired driving not only puts lives at risk but carries significant legal consequences. We remain committed to protecting our communities and holding individuals accountable for behavior that endangers public safety.”
