A South Carolina man has been sentenced to over five years in prison following a methamphetamine trafficking conviction in Caldwell County, North Carolina.

David Mark Joyce, 41, of Great Falls, SC, was found guilty last week in Caldwell County Superior Court. He received a sentence of 70 to 93 months behind bars for trafficking methamphetamine.

The case stems from an October 29, 2024, incident in which a Caldwell County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a black Chevrolet Cobalt in the Valmead Community. The driver had run a red light at the intersection of Highway 321 and North Main Street.

Instead of stopping, the driver fled north on Hwy 321, initiating a high-speed pursuit that continued into Blowing Rock. The chase ended when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

After exiting the car, Joyce was taken into custody. Deputies found a bag in his possession containing approximately 175 grams of methamphetamine. He was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including drug trafficking and fleeing to elude arrest.
