GAINESVILLE, Fla. — David Angelo Lunedei Jr., 44, was arrested on September 18 and charged with two counts of unarmed vehicle burglary, grand theft, theft, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Gainesville Police Department reports.
At about 7:35 a.m., an officer responded to a call regarding a man seen rummaging through a car in the 1200 block of W. University Avenue. The witness stayed on scene until law enforcement arrived and identified Lunedei near the intersection of University Avenue and NW 13th Street.
The vehicle’s owner reported nothing missing but pressed charges for unlawful entry. After being Mirandized, Lunedei admitted he entered the vehicle seeking cigarettes but left after not finding any.
A search of Lunedei’s person revealed a glass pipe commonly used for smoking crack cocaine, which he admitted to using.
Police discovered a shopping cart filled with items, including a laptop and mobile hotspot labeled with “UF Foundation” stickers. These items were reported stolen by a University of Florida employee, who found that several belongings, including a backpack and chargers, were missing from his vehicle the previous evening. The stolen items’ value was approximately $90, with the laptop alone worth about $800.
Lunedei confessed to stealing a backpack and keeping the laptop and hotspot but claimed to have discarded other items.
Lunedei, who lists his address as GRACE Marketplace, has a prior felony conviction for property damage. His criminal history includes a March 2024 arrest for property damage to Santa Fe College property, and a July 2025 detention for possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia. He was released to Drug Court but failed to comply with treatment requirements, leading to a warrant issued for his arrest.
In addition to the new burglary and theft charges, Lunedei now faces prosecution for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Judge Jonathan Ramsey set bail at $30,000 for the new charges and $20,000 for the drug-related charges.
