A pub tenant has been found guilty of permitting a cannabis farm to operate under his management at a now-closed venue in Tamworth.

David Galil, the former tenant of The Three Tuns pub on Lichfield Street, was convicted after 50 cannabis plants were discovered in two rooms at the premises. Despite claiming ignorance of the “unmistakable” smell of the class B drug, Galil was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court this month.

The raid, conducted by Staffordshire Police on May 18, 2021, resulted in Galil and three others being detained at the scene. The Three Tuns has since shut down and is not associated with another pub of the same name in the town.

Prosecutor Laura Coton told the court that Galil was present during the raid and played a role in allowing the illegal operation. Galil, of Bowlas Avenue, Sutton Coldfield, is scheduled to be sentenced on July 3.
