JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — David Binz, a registered sex offender featured in a viral vigilante video, was arrested Monday by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO), the agency confirmed.
The video, posted by an online vigilante group, garnered more than 250,000 views within 24 hours, raising public concern over Binz’s alleged activities.
According to the Florida Sex Offender Registry, Binz has a history of convictions in three separate cases:
Soliciting a child for sex online (2006)
Unlawful sexual activity with a minor aged 16 or 17 (2011)
Possession of child sexual abuse imagery (2009)
All offenses occurred in different counties across Florida.
The vigilante group’s video claimed that JSO had allowed Binz to remain free despite child pornography allegedly being found on his phone. However, JSO responded late Monday, labeling vigilante investigations as “dangerous” and warning they could compromise evidence or endanger victims and bystanders.
JSO also clarified that the suspect’s phone was indeed seized, contradicting claims circulating on social media. Binz had been arrested approximately three hours before the video was posted around 9:30 p.m.
Currently, Binz faces eight felony charges related to violating sex offender regulations. Authorities are reviewing the case to determine if additional charges are warranted. He remains in custody without bond.
