Dashmeet Singh, a 31-year-old man, was arrested for allegedly cheating women by luring them with promises of marriage. His latest victim, a 30-year-old woman from Shalimar Bagh, Delhi, was defrauded of Rs 86,500.
Police said the accused targeted women seeking matrimonial alliances via online matrimonial sites and social media platforms. Once he gained their trust, he persuaded them to transfer money and then cut off all contact.
The case was registered last October at the Northwest Delhi Cyber Police Station under section 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators analysed digital footprints, transaction records, and location data, tracing the suspect through bank accounts and UPI transactions. Inputs from the platforms helped locate him in Rajpura, Punjab, where he was operating at the time of arrest.

Dashmeet admitted to committing the fraud due to financial difficulties and funding an extravagant lifestyle, spending the money on liquor and parties.
A graduate, he works as a dispatch manager in a private company. To evade detection, he frequently changed locations, initially staying in Janakpuri before moving to Punjab.
Adl CP (Northwest) Bhisham Singh confirmed the arrest and praised the cyber team for meticulous tracking of the digital money trail, which led to apprehending the accused.
