Dashir Jackson Charged After Elm Street Shooting in Utica

Man shot during late-night fight; suspect arrested nearby

UTICA, N.Y. — A late-night fight on Elm Street ended with a man being shot and another charged, according to Utica Police.

Officers on patrol around 12:50 a.m. on the 1500 block responded to reports of a fight between two men. As police approached, one man fled the scene while the other was found with a gunshot wound to the upper leg.

Bystanders confirmed hearing gunfire. The injured man was transported by the Utica Fire Department to Wynn Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police searched the area and recovered a handgun in a nearby backyard. Shortly after, they detained Dashir Jackson, 30, of Utica, hiding in the bushes close to the scene.

Jackson was charged with attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
