SHERMAN, Texas — A former Denison preschool employee who seriously injured a toddler, along with the daycare owner who attempted to conceal the abuse, were sentenced Tuesday in Grayson County District Court.
Dashawn Raglin, a former worker at the “Wonderful World of You Preschool,” was sentenced to four years in prison for injuring a 2-year-old child during the summer of 2024. Investigators said Raglin admitted to forcefully pulling the toddler toward her while changing him, breaking his leg. Despite hearing what she described as a “blood-curdling cry,” Raglin failed to seek immediate medical care for the child. The judge ruled that time she has already served will count toward her sentence.
Raglin’s attorney, Jason Jacoby, told the court that the surveillance video capturing the incident was difficult to watch and said he advised his client not to view it prior to sentencing.
“My client cried the entire time while reviewing the physical evidence,” Jacoby said. “She struggled emotionally with what she saw.”
Also sentenced was preschool owner Shannon White, who admitted to deleting a portion of the surveillance footage that showed the abuse and initially lying to law enforcement during the investigation. White pleaded guilty to child endangerment and tampering with evidence.
The judge sentenced White to five years in jail followed by five years of probation. Grayson County District Attorney John Kermit Hill said the sentences reflected the seriousness of the crimes and the breach of trust involved.
“These individuals had no prior criminal history, yet they were entrusted with the care of innocent children,” Hill said. “The court’s decision appropriately reflects that responsibility.”
Raglin’s attorney stated his client may seek probation in the future but declined to outline the strategy moving forward.
