by Ananya Mehta

In a brazen daylight robbery, three armed men looted Darshan Jewellers on Golibar Road in Ghatkopar West around 10:30 am on Wednesday, injuring the shop’s owner, Darshan Metkari, in the process.

According to Ghatkopar police, the robbers stormed into the store and held Metkari at gunpoint. During the confrontation, he sustained a neck injury and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. An eyewitness from a neighboring shop reported hearing Metkari scream for help before the robbers fled—two on a bike and one on foot, firing into the air.

Darshan’s brother, Vikrant Metkari, confirmed the robbery, stating, “We weren’t at the shop when it happened. Darshan called our mother to inform us. He’s currently handling things with the police.”

The accused reportedly made off with property worth Rs3 lakh. DCP Rakesh Ola (Zone VII) confirmed the robbery and injury, adding that two of the accused have been detained, while the third is still on the run. CCTV footage played a key role in identifying the suspects.

Locals described the panic caused by gunfire, initially mistaking it for firecrackers. The incident has raised concerns about safety in the area.

Sudendra Mehta, spokesperson for the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), advised jewellers to consider Jewellers Block Insurance to protect themselves from financial losses in such incidents. “You can’t always stop thieves, but you can protect your inventory through insurance,” he said.

Police investigations are ongoing, and further details are expected soon.
