Darren Smith, a 39-year-old man with no fixed address, has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of burglary and three counts of fraud by false representation at Leicester Crown Court on June 25.
Smith’s crimes began with a burglary on Stamford Street in Leicester, where he stole multiple items, including a bank card, overnight between January 31 and February 1, 2024. The stolen bank card was later used fraudulently.
A second burglary occurred in the same area on the night of January 19-20, 2024, where another bank card was taken and later used for fraudulent activities.
Investigating officer PC Eliot Bates described Smith as a “prolific offender” who thought little of burgling homes and using stolen bank cards for fraud. Bates commended the investigation that led to Smith’s identification, resulting in his guilty plea and subsequent sentencing.
The court’s decision brings justice to the victims of Smith’s thefts and serves as a reminder of the consequences for those committing such offences.
