SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities have arrested Darrell Devon Bogle, 26, in connection with a 2019 homicide investigation. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office announced Bogle’s arrest on Monday for the first-degree murder of Michael Kotait, whose body was found in Wildwood on November 9, 2019.

Detectives from the Special Investigations Squad apprehended Bogle at The Mark at Wildwood apartment complex in Oxford, Florida. During the arrest, officers discovered a significant quantity of narcotics in the vehicle Bogle exited and found a stolen handgun concealed in his waistband.

Bogle faces an extensive list of charges including first-degree murder, armed trafficking of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and oxycodone, possession of crack cocaine, THC wax, and Suboxone with intent to sell. Additional charges include maintaining a vehicle for drug trafficking, possession of firearms as a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license.

Michael Kotait, aged 61 at the time, was found deceased in a yard on County Road 231 in Wildwood early on the morning of November 9, 2019. His vehicle was recovered submerged at the Lake Deaton boat ramp shortly before.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has indicated the investigation remains active as they suspect Bogle did not act alone in the murder.
