SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Three people were arrested on Saturday in connection with a robbery that occurred during the Belmont Stakes festivities at Saratoga Race Course on June 7.
Darla Salazar-Quinpanta, 21, of Jersey City, New Jersey, along with Kevin Toroshina, 20, and Kevin Ilaby, 24, both of Brooklyn, were taken into custody by Saratoga Springs Police (SSPD). They now face felony charges related to the incident.
Police were conducting a proactive surveillance operation at the track when they observed the suspects allegedly stealing personal belongings from an unaware attendee. As the suspects attempted to flee, officers intervened and apprehended them without incident. The stolen property was recovered and returned to the victim.
The individuals were charged as follows:
Darla Salazar-Quinpanta – Second-degree robbery
Kevin Toroshina – Fourth-degree conspiracy (aiding another)
Kevin Ilaby – Fourth-degree conspiracy (aiding another)
All three suspects were released on appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in Saratoga Springs City Court on June 24.
The investigation was assisted by the New York State Police and New York Racing Association (NYRA) security.
