KINSTON, N.C. — A former Kinston police officer has been arrested following an investigation into the suspected theft of money from a crash scene in 2024.
On August 20, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) arrested Daquante Cortez Jones in connection with the alleged theft that occurred during a vehicle accident response. According to SBI Public Information Director Chad Flowers, Jones was charged with theft from a person and altering, destroying, or stealing criminal evidence.
The same day Jones was taken into custody, he received a termination letter from the Kinston Police Department, officially ending his employment.
Officials have not disclosed the exact amount of money allegedly stolen or additional details surrounding the incident. The investigation remains active.
