DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. — A Pennsylvania man, Dante J. Cardelli, 55, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to steal $100,000 from a North Carolina business bank account using a fake ID.
According to Sheriff J.D. Hartman, the investigation began on October 24, 2024, after the victim reported suspicious activity on their business account at Skyline National Bank in Mocksville. The victim noticed $100,000 had been stolen and immediately contacted the Davie County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies worked with the bank and reviewed video surveillance footage, which showed the suspect conducting the transaction. Cardelli reportedly used a fraudulent identification card containing the victim’s personal details, but with his own photo.
The bank managed to stop payment on a check for $83,837.36, but Cardelli had already walked away with $18,500 in cash before the fraud was discovered.
Cardelli is charged with:
Felony obtaining property by false pretense
Identity theft
Possession/manufacturing of a fake ID
At the time of his arrest, Cardelli was already in custody in Watauga County for similar financial crimes. The new warrant was served on August 21, and he was issued a $25,000 bond in Davie County.
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges as the investigation continues into related incidents.
