A 35-year-old man, previously accused in a child abuse case, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl in northeast Delhi’s Dayalpur area, police reported on Friday.
The accused, Danish, a house painter and resident of New Kardampuri, Shahdara, was identified through an exhaustive review of over 250 CCTV cameras and police records of past offenders under the POCSO Act.
The assault occurred on April 3, when the minor had stepped out to ask a neighbor about schoolwork. She returned home crying and informed her mother that an unknown man had lured her into a hall on the street and inappropriately touched her before fleeing the scene.
A case was registered at Dayalpur Police Station under Section 137 of the BNS (Kidnapping) and Section 10 of the POCSO Act. While initial investigations yielded no immediate leads, police eventually matched the suspect’s image from CCTV footage with dossiers of known offenders.
The breakthrough came when Danish’s previous POCSO case from 2021 at Jafrabad Police Station was matched to the suspect. He was detained and confessed during interrogation, leading to his formal arrest.
