In a significant breakthrough, the Special Anti-Gangster Unit of Sonepat Police arrested a notorious criminal, Danish alias Golu, after a brief exchange of fire near Jakholi toll plaza on Sunday.

Danish, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, had been absconding and carried a bounty of Rs5,000. He was wanted in nearly a dozen theft cases along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway.

According to Ajay Dhankar, in-charge of the special unit, police received a tip-off about the movement of Danish in the district. When the team attempted to apprehend him, the accused opened fire in an attempt to escape.

Police retaliated, injuring the accused in the leg. He was immediately arrested and sent to the civil hospital for treatment.

From the scene, authorities recovered an illegal weapon, a live cartridge, and a mobile phone.

Two of Danish’s aides had already been arrested in earlier operations linked to the same series of highway thefts.

The arrest marks a significant step in cracking down on organized theft operations in the region, particularly along major transport corridors.
