Tampa, FL – A fugitive wanted in connection to a 2023 fatal shooting in Kalamazoo, Michigan, was arrested in Tampa over the weekend, authorities confirmed.
Daniel Ray Partee, 34, was taken into custody by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies on August 24, 2025, without incident. He is accused of killing Kunta Tavarius Davis, 43, who was fatally shot on September 22, 2023, in the 1300 block of Cameron Street in Kalamazoo.
The year of the shooting marked a record level of gun violence in Kalamazoo, with 22 homicides reported. In response, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) launched a dedicated cold case unit in 2025, assigning two detectives to focus on unsolved homicides.
Their investigation led to a two-count felony warrant issued on August 7, 2025, charging Partee with open murder and felony firearm.
Partee was located after a citizen turned in his lost wallet to the Temple Terrace Police Department, which contacted the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Inside the wallet was a Florida driver’s license listing a Tampa address. Deputies tracked him down and arrested him the next day.
During the arrest, deputies also recovered a clear plastic bag containing several Xanax bars, leading to an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance in Florida.
