Daniel E. Harrison, a 40-year-old man from Winfield, Missouri, has been arrested and charged with six felony counts for allegedly defrauding elderly residents of Franklin County out of more than $50,000 in 2022. Harrison was taken into custody by the Missouri State Highway Patrol on Thursday, June 13, following an arrest warrant issued in March. While he resides in Winfield, court records list his address as St. Clair.
The charges stem from incidents between February and August 2022, when Harrison allegedly took advantage of three elderly victims, all aged 60 or older, by making false promises related to construction work. Harrison is accused of defrauding one victim out of more than $9,800 for a deck-building project, another victim for more than $18,300 for improvements at a residence and golf course, and a third victim out of $22,900 for a retaining wall replacement.
A Franklin County grand jury indicted Harrison on March 12 with three counts of deceptive business practices and three counts of financial exploitation of the elderly. Following his arrest, his bond was initially set at $100,000, but he is currently being held without bond at the Franklin County jail.
This case highlights the ongoing issue of financial exploitation targeting vulnerable seniors, with authorities urging increased vigilance against such scams.
