ORLANDO, Fla. (CBS12) — A month-long investigation into cartel-related drug trafficking culminated Thursday with the arrest of 47-year-old Daniel Cuevas and the seizure of more than 4.4 pounds of fentanyl in Orlando.
According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the investigation began in July after agents from the Fort Myers office received intelligence that a suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel was distributing large quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine in the Orlando area.
On August 29, FDLE agents executed a controlled operation targeting Cuevas. During the sting, they recovered over four pounds of fentanyl — a potentially lethal amount capable of causing thousands of overdoses.
Cuevas was arrested on trafficking charges by FDLE’s Special Operations Team and booked into the Orange County Jail.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing and may result in additional arrests.
