Daniel Coulson Sentenced to 20 Years for Sex Abuse of Minor

Huntingtown Man Receives 20-Year Sentence After 2023 Confession

by Sophia Bennett

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — On April 11, 2025, Daniel Phillip Coulson, 40, of Huntingtown, Maryland, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the sex abuse of a minor. The sentence was handed down by Calvert County Circuit Court Judge Mark W. Carmean.

The case first came to light in 2019 when Child Protective Services launched an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse. However, the case was initially closed due to insufficient evidence. In 2023, new evidence emerged, leading to the re-interviewing of the victim. During this interview, the victim disclosed that Coulson had sexually abused her.

Following this revelation, Coulson was arrested, advised of his Miranda rights, and later confessed to the crime. As part of his sentence, Coulson will serve five years of supervised probation upon release and will be required to register as a sex offender for life.

Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Rebecca N. Cordero prosecuted the case on behalf of Calvert County.
