FARGO, N.D. — Eight years after pleading guilty in a high-profile human trafficking sting, Dan Durr, former owner of Don’s Car Wash, has opened a Lego store in Fargo, raising concerns among local residents.
Durr was arrested in 2017 during the Guardian Angel Human Trafficking Operation, initially facing felony charges related to patronizing a minor for commercial sex. He later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of hiring an individual for sexual activity.
Some community members, like local resident Keith, believe families have a right to know about the store owner’s criminal past.
“If you even just type in his name on Google, that operation comes up,” Keith said. “There should be a public PSA about this man’s background.”
Another resident, Alex, shared that family members were upset upon learning about Durr’s history.
“I told my parents this morning and they were disgusted,” Alex said.
Valley News Live visited the Lego store but found Durr absent. Later, he returned a call, denying previous media reports linking him to child pornography and sex trafficking, calling them false and threatening legal action.
Despite the denial, residents remain uneasy because the store’s primary customers are minors. Keith emphasized the concern:
“Not saying anything would happen because of Dan’s previous record, but the chances are obviously higher versus someone without that kind of criminal background.”
