A woman in her late twenties was arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly assaulting a woman home guard who had advised her on personal safety and attire. The accused, Damini, also known as Mohini, is a resident of Narayanapura in Mahadevapura and is employed with a private firm.
The victim, Lakshmi Narasamma, serves as a home guard attached to the Banasawadi traffic police station. She sustained injuries during the assault and was treated as an outpatient at a private hospital.
According to police, the incident took place on Friday evening near the KR Puram railway station. Damini was reportedly subjected to lewd comments by a group of men while walking along the road. Narasamma, who was on traffic duty nearby, intervened promptly, chased the miscreants away, and attempted to counsel Damini on staying safe in crowded areas. She also suggested avoiding the busy road due to heavy traffic movement.
Officials said Damini took offence to the advice and reacted aggressively. In a sudden outburst, she allegedly attacked Narasamma, causing bleeding injuries to her face and nose. Police personnel arrived at the scene shortly after and detained Damini.
Following a formal complaint lodged by Narasamma, Damini was arrested and later produced before a court. The court remanded her to judicial custody at the Bengaluru Central Prison. During interrogation, Damini reportedly told police that she had studied in the Maldives and later earned a BBM degree from a private college in Bengaluru.
