BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) – Damien McDaniel, the man accused of killing four people and injuring 17 others in a mass shooting outside a Birmingham club in September, has now been indicted in connection with another shooting in July and a homicide in August.
McDaniel, 30, was indicted on capital murder charges for killing two or more people and committing four counts of capital murder with a deadly weapon fired from a vehicle. The victims of the September shooting at Trendsetters Lounge included Markeshia Gettings, 42, Stevie McGhee, 42, Angela Weatherspoon, 56, and Lerandus Anderson, 30. McGhee was found dead outside, while Gettings and Weatherspoon were discovered inside the lounge. Anderson died in the hospital shortly after being taken there.
In addition, McDaniel, along with his co-defendant Hatarius Woods, faces multiple charges connected to a shooting on July 13, 2023. The shooting occurred at a birthday party at Trendsetters Lounge, where someone fired shots into the building from a vehicle after a dispute. McDaniel and Woods are also charged in relation to the August 13 shooting of Charlie Herbert Moore, 61, who was found dead in an apartment in North Birmingham. Both suspects were indicted for capital murder during a burglary or attempted burglary.
McDaniel has been previously charged in connection with six homicides during a violent crime spree that began on September 19, 2023, including the deaths of Diontranet Brown, 35, at the 604 Lounge and Jamarcus McIntyre, who was killed just a day after the club shooting. In total, McDaniel is charged with 11 murders and 30 shootings in the Birmingham area since July 2023.
Birmingham Councilor LaTonya Tate expressed the gravity of the situation, urging a community response to combat violent crime and emphasize the consequences of violent actions.
Authorities have speculated that some of the homicides may be linked to a murder-for-hire scheme, but McDaniel remains the sole suspect in custody. The investigation continues.
