SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Authorities responded to a domestic violence call on March 24, 2025, around 5:45 p.m. at a residence on the 300 block of Illinois Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a female victim suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was quickly transported to a local hospital for emergency medical care.
Shreveport Police reported that the victim had been struck several times with a rubber mallet and had a glass vase broken over her head. The Domestic Violence Unit quickly launched an investigation, and by the following day, detectives had obtained an arrest warrant for Damian Johnson, charging him with domestic battery with intentional serious bodily injury with a weapon.
Later that same day, patrol officers located and arrested Johnson. During his arrest, authorities discovered that he also had an outstanding fugitive warrant from Georgia, as well as a recent indictment warrant for a 2023 homicide case in Shreveport.
Johnson now faces multiple charges:
Domestic abuse battery with intentional serious bodily injury with a weapon (Shreveport)
Second-degree murder (Shreveport)
Fugitive charge (Georgia)
The victim in the domestic violence incident is expected to survive. Shreveport Police have stated that further details regarding the murder charge will be released as they become available, as the indictment was issued by the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office.
