LA PLATA, Md. – On Thursday, August 21, 2025, Dalvin Devonte Risi, 27, of La Plata, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by Charles County Circuit Court Judge Monise A. Stephenson for his role in the 2022 murder conspiracy that led to the death of Aden Christopher Garcia.

Risi pleaded guilty on December 21, 2023, to Conspiracy to Commit First-Degree Murder and Wear, Carry, and Transport of a Handgun in a Vehicle. In addition to his prison term, he will be placed on five years of supervised probation upon release. If he violates probation, he faces up to life in prison.

The charges stem from an incident on October 23, 2022, when Garcia was shot in a Waldorf neighborhood during what was supposed to be a drug transaction involving Risi, co-defendant Ricardo Kevon Colbert-Lyles, and a third suspect.

According to investigators, the transaction never occurred. Garcia walked away, but the group later followed him to his neighborhood, where the unnamed suspect exited Risi’s black Nissan Versa, approached Garcia’s vehicle, and shot him in the head. Garcia died the following day.

Surveillance footage confirmed Risi was the driver during the incident. Authorities also determined that Risi had picked up both Colbert-Lyles and the shooter earlier that day, although Risi was not previously acquainted with the gunman.

Risi’s co-defendant, Ricardo Kevon Colbert-Lyles, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on June 27, 2025, for his role in orchestrating the murder.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by Charles County prosecutors to pursue justice in violent crime and gun-related offenses.
